Betting suggestion:

The pre-season was not a good one for Shanghai Port. The team began by losing their first official match, against rivals Shanghai Shenhua, by (2-3), which was the match for the Super Cup. And as if that wasn't enough, they lost their last two matches in the Elite Champions League, first to Vissel Kobe (4-0) and then to Yokohama Marinos (0-2). These are opponents of a different caliber, something that won't be the case against Shenzhen City. Here Shanghai Port have the chance to rectify the image they have left in recent matches, and are already under pressure to win and convince. Shanghai Port European handicap (-1) is the bet for this first match for K. Muscat's side in the 2025 Chinese Super League.

Preview
Shanghai SIPG and Sichuan Jiuniu face at Shanghai Stadium, in a match for the 1st round of the CSL. In the last 3 years these teams met twice: the earliest head‑to‑head was played on 13‑09‑2024 and ended in a (2‑0) win by Shanghai Port, and the latest on 05‑05‑2024, which ended in a (0‑6) win by Shanghai Port.

Analysis Shanghai SIPG

The home team makes its debut in this edition of the competition, after having finished 1st last season. In their last match, for the AFC Champions League, they got a home loss against Yokohama F. Marinos by (0‑2). In the last 10 home matches Shanghai SIPG has won 7, tied 2 and lost 1. They haven't been very strong defensively, since they have suffered goals in 8 of the last 10 matches, but their offense has scored frequently, since they have scored goals in 7 of the last 10 matches. There is a tendency for goals in their home matches, since 19 of the last 19 have ended with Over 1,5 goals and 14 out of 19 have ended with Over 2,5 goals. In 15 matches, they have conceded the first goal 8 times and have never been able to turn the score around.

The Shanghai Port team fought a titanic battle until the last matchday with rivals Shanghai Shenhua. It was a fight that wasn't at all expected, at least not in such an intense way. In fact, the Shanghai Port team was so favored to win the title that when Shanghai Shenhua managed to move into the lead with two rounds to go, Shanghai Port fans feared the worst, but the team still managed to regain the lead in the very next round and ended up as champions. Now, for this new season, Shanghai Port are once again the team best placed to win the title, but they will have more competition, especially from Beijing Gouan, who are betting big this season. And, of course, they will once again have to rely on the quality of the Shanghai Shenhua team. That's why it's important that K. Muscat's side don't waste points on opponents who, in theory, are within their reach, as is the case with Shenzhen City in this first round.

Confirmed Lineup: Junling Yan, Tyias Browning, Wang Zhen'ao, Li Shuai, Wei Zhen, Xu Xin, Mateus Vital, Jussa, Gustavo, Jin Feng, Leonardo.
Coach: K. Muscat.

Analysis Sichuan Jiuniu

The away team makes its debut in this edition of the competition, after having finished 13th last season. In their last match, for the Club Friendlies, they got an away loss against Kasetsart by (4‑0). In the last 10 away matches Sichuan Jiuniu has won 1, tied 3 and lost 6. Defensive consistency hasn’t been their best feature, as they have conceded goals in 9 of the last 10 matches.

Shenzhen City had a tough time last season. They fought a hard battle to distance themselves from the relegation places, but often came very close. The lack of consistency was a constant in the Shenzhen City team, which hopes to be able to correct that for this new season. Under normal conditions, Shenzhen City have four teams below them in terms of potential, which could make for a quieter season, but that's all just theory. It will be on the pitch that everything will be proven, and for now, Shenzhen City will have a very difficult game in the first round. Any point they can gain at the home of the defending champions will be precious for their main objective, which is to stay in the top flight.

Confirmed Lineup: Zhao Shi, Jiang Zhipeng, Wei Zhang, Yang Yiming, Yu Rui, Zhang Yudong, Eden Karzev, Edu Garcia, Chenglin Zhang, Abuduwaili Baihelamu, Tiago.
Coach: Li Yi.
