Analysis of Corinthians

Corinthians has begun 2015 in great shape, presenting good tactical quality, and being undefeated for several weeks. However, defeat finally came in Libertadores and in the semifinal of the Paulista Championship.

The team have been surprised a few times, namely when they were eliminated by Palmeiras from the Paulista, or when they were beaten by São Paulo in the Libertadores Cup and afterwards by Guarani in the first knockout round, due to a compromising mistake by keeper Cássio.

However, this Corinthians seems to have more qualities than flaws in 2015. Furthermore, they are far superior to their opponents and will have the home advantage in this decisive match. Therefore, we believe the Brazilians will prevent further mistakes and will take advantage of their superiority to get the win.

Probable Line-up: Fagner; Felipe, Gil and Fábio Santos; Ralf, Elias, Jadson, Renato Augusto and Mendoza; Paolo Guerrero

Coach: Tite

Confirmed Lineup: Cássio, Felipe, Fágner, Gil, Fábio Santos, Renato Augusto, Jádson, Ralf, Elias, P. Guerrero, Malcom.
Coach: Tite.

Analysis of Guaraní

Guarani finished Group 8 in the second position, after 2 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss (4-1 against Racing). The team reached the knockout stage with the worst defense record amongst qualified teams.

But that didn’t stop them from surprising Corinthians in the first leg with a 2-0 win, in what was their 4th consecutive win in all competitions. They are currently 2nd in their national league, after only 3 losses in 18 matches.

Thanks to the good first leg result, they can now afford to lose 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2 in this 2nd leg away match. However, it’s important to remember that Guarani is theoretically inferior. Therefore, even with a 2 goal disadvantage, Corinthians still have a word to say, since they clearly have enough quality to qualify.

Confirmed Lineup: A. Aguilar, J. Cáceres, J. Patiño, T. Bartoméus, R. Maldonado, J. Aguilar, M. Palau, L. de La Cruz, J. Mendoza, F. Santander, J. Benítez.
Coach: Fernando Jubero.

Betting suggestion:

In group stage, Corinthians was unfortunate and faced strong teams. However they still managed to win a good amount of points. But the team has not been playing at that same level, which doesn’t mean they don’t have enough quality to win this match and even qualify. Guarani will probably present a defensive strategy, trying to hold on to this 2 goal advantage. Therefore we predict a Brazilian win.
