Analysis of Chile

Playing this edition of the American Cup as the hosts, Chile arrives at this match with a good set of players and promises to compete with the usual favourites for the title. After the good results in the qualification for the 2014 World Cup, in which they finished third, Chile also had a good World Cup, presenting a fast attractive football with good transitions. They had to fight for the qualification for the knockout rounds in a strong group, with Holland and Spain. They got the qualification after a brilliant win over former champions Spain. In the first knockout round they created good chances to get through, but the game ended 1-1 and they were eliminated in the penalty shootouts.
For this American Cup, they have kept coach Jorge Sampaoli, who has been highly praised in the last years. All usual starting line-up players are available. Chile has never won this competition before, but starts this tournament with its best team ever. Moreover, they are the hosts of the event, which means this is probably their best chance ever of winning the American Cup.

Confirmed Lineup: C. Bravo, E. Mena, G. Jara, M. Isla, A. Vidal, G. Medel, J. Valdivia, J. Beausejour, M. Díaz, C. Aránguiz, A. Sánchez.
Coach: J. Sampaoli.

Analysis of Ecuador

As their opponents, Ecuador has never won the Cup before. Their best result was a 4th place in the 1993 edition, in which they were the hosts. In the qualification stage for the World Cup, they were irregular and almost didn’t guarantee qualification for the World Cup. Their group in the World Cup wasn’t one of the easiest, so they had to fight for qualification for the knockout rounds with Switzerland and France. They didn’t make it through this group stage, but played well and went back home after a dignifying participation.
Ecuador arrives at this American Cup with a group of players which is very similar to the one that played the World Cup, but their best player, Antonio Valencia, from Manchester United, is recovering from a surgery and isn’t available. Coach Gustavo Quinteros is confident that his team will do well in this event. The last friendly match ended with a good win over Panamá with a 4-0 final score, so they wish to do the same against Chile.

Confirmed Lineup: A. Domínguez, W. Ayoví, J. Paredes, G. Achilier, F. Erazo, O. Lastra, F. Martínez, J. Montero, C. Noboa, M. Bolaños, E. Valencia.
Coach: G. Quinteros.

Betting suggestion:

Although Chile is the favourite, we know Ecuador has a strong and balanced team. They are usually very aggressive, both defensively and offensively, so Chile will have to endure many fouls. However we expect a lot of creativity as well, and a match with many goal opportunities, so the Over 1.5 goals in favour of Chile is a good value bet, as opposed to a bet in favour of Chile to win.
