Preview:
This Friday, Argentina and Colombia face at the Viña del Mar, in a match for the quarter finals of the 2015 Copa America. This is a faceoff between two of the best teams of the tournament, but which have had different performances in the group stage. Argentina dominated Group B and finished in the 1st position, with 7 points. Colombia was one of the favourites in its group, but won only 4 points and almost didn’t qualify. The last match between these teams was for the World Cup qualifiers, in a match that ended in a goalless draw.

Analysis of Argentina

Argentina is considered one of the strongest national teams in the world. This generation of football players has had important results, like two Olympic titles and the final in the last world cup. In this competition they wish to get another important result, to win the Copa America once again. Although Argentina has always had strong teams, they haven’t won this competition since 1993, but the individual quality of these players allows them to dream about winning the competition again.

For this tournament, apart from Lionel Messi, Argentina has Carlos Tevez, who has had a great season with Juventus. But he hasn’t played a lot in the group stage. Although they have finished the group stage in the first position, Argentina hasn’t had great exhibitions. In their debut it seemed they were going to beat Paraguay easily, by they conceded a tie after having had a 2-0 advantage. In the next matches, against Uruguay and Jamaica they won by 1-0, but in none of these matches they have had a good exhibition. They now face another strong opponent in the tournament, so they need to be very concentrated to avoid surprises.

Confirmed Lineup: S. Romero, E. Garay, P. Zabaleta, N. Otamendi, M. Rojo, J. Mascherano, J. Pastore, Á. di María, L. Biglia, S. Agüero, L. Messi.
Coach: G. Martino.

Analysis of Colombia

Although they don’t have as much history as Argentina, Colombia has the best generation of football players ever. Moreover, they arrive at this Copa America after a great performance in the last world cup, in which they won all matches up to the quarter-finals, in which they were eliminated by Brazil. However, this was their best world cup ever, so they started this competition has one of the favourites to win the title. But up to now they haven’t justified this favouritism.

In the first match they surprisingly lost against Venezuela, in a match in which they were unable to overcome the opponent’s pressure. In the next match they played better against Brazil and won. Therefore, they played the last match of the group stage with the need to win, but Peru didn’t allow their most talented players any spaces, so the match ended with no goals. But Brazil’s win over Venezuela allowed them to qualify in the third place of the group. They now face another powerful team, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem for Colombia, since their best match in the group stage was against the most powerful team of the group.

Confirmed Lineup: D. Ospina, C. Zapata, C. Zúñiga, J. Murillo, S. Arias, J. Rodríguez, A. Mejía, T. Gutiérrez, J. Martínez, J. Cuadrado, V. Ibarbo, C. Bonilla.

Betting suggestion:

Although Argentina is technically superior to Colombia, they haven’t had great exhibitions and face a hard opponent with a lot of technical quality as well. The Brazilians know firsthand how hard they can be to beat. However, Argentina seems to be in a best moment, so they should qualify for the semi-final.
