Coritiba faces Ponte Preta at the Couto Pereira Stadium, in Curitiba, in a 1st leg match for the 3rd round of the 2015 Brazil Cup. This is likely to be a very balanced match, since both teams come from the A Series. In the previous rounds, they both faced weaker opponents. Coxa eliminated Villa Nova-MG and Fortaleza and Macaca eliminated Vilhena-RO and Moto Club-MA.

Analysis of Coritiba

After suffering last season to avoid relegation from the A Series and performing modestly in the state championship, Coritiba made a few changes to the squad but didn’t get the results they expected. In this year’s state championship, they have done well and reached the final, but lost both 1st and 2nd leg matches against Operário. So once again the club decided to renovate the squad to try to do better in the rest of the season.

In the Brazil Cup, they eliminated Villa Nova in the 1st round in the 1st leg match, by winning 3-0 in Minas Gerais. In the 2nd round they faced Fortaleza and had a more balanced round. But after a 2-1 home win for each team they were more fortunate in the penalty shootout and qualified for this round, in which they wish to get a good 1st leg result and get a good lead for the home match, since they are usually strong in their stadium and have only lost one match in front of their supporters so far.

Confirmed Lineup: Bruno Brigido, Leandro Silva, Ivan, Norberto Neto, Leandro Almeida, Ruy, Thiago Galhardo, João Paulo, Rosinei, Raphael Lucas, Wellington Paulista.
Coach: Pachequinho.

Analysis of Ponte Preta

Ponte Preta has kept most of the players they allowed them to reach the A Series. In the state championship, they have done well and managed to qualify 2nd in their group, 5th in the overall table, only behind the 4 major state clubs. In the quarter-finals they have been eliminated by Corinthians. They now wish to do well in the A Series and avoid being relegated back to the B Series, as well as reaching as far as possible in this Cup.

In the A Series League, Ponte started well and has not lost yet. After facing strong teams like Grêmio and Cruzeiro in away matches and São Paulo in a home match, Ponte justified their good results with convincing exhibitions. On the other hand, they seem more focused in the league and are likely to spare some of their most influential players in this Cup match, allowing a few young players to have their opportunity.

Confirmed Lineup: Marcelo Lomba, Renato Chaves, Gilson, Pablo, Jeferson, Juninho, Roni, Vitor Xavier, Paulinho, Borges, Cesinha.
Coach: Felipe Moreira.

Betting suggestion:

Although Coritiba is the favourite, Ponte has presented good offensive volume in the first halves of their matches and has got enough quality to balance the match, so we believe they will hold on, at least in the 1st half, and suggest the Asian Handicapo + 0.5 in favour of Ponte as a bet of good value.
