Analysis: São Paulo vs The Strongest (17 February 2016)

This Wednesday, at 7:30 PM, Sao Paulo hosts The Strongest, at Pacaembu Stadium, in Sao Paulo, in a game for the first round of the group stage of Copa LIbertadores 2016.

      Analysis of São Paulo

A club with a lot of tradition in continental competitions, Sao Paulo is a three time champion of Libertadores and is always one of the favorites to be a champion. This season, it isn't any different, even with the team having a tough 2015. Now, after finishing fourth in last year's national competition, they arrive in 2016 with a much better atmosphere for the team. Now under, the new coach Edgardo "Patón" Bauza, the teams hopes for a good debut in the competition.

In the hopes of a better year, the team's administration held most of the players from last year and still had quality signings. The toughest lost was the retirement of the team's biggest idol, Rogerio Ceni. The team qualified from the preliminary phase of the Copa Libertadores, but faced difficulties against a clearly weaker team, Cesar Vallejo. Seeking a better performance, Patón Bauza will have to play without Breno, Lugano, Daniel e Joao Paulo, all hurt.

      Analysis of The Strongest

Unlike its opponent, The Strongest is a traditional team in its country, with a lot of Libertadores participations, but has never moved past the round of 16 in the international competition. The team assured yet another participation in the tournament after good performances in the Apertura and Clausura in the 2014-15 season finishing second place overall. The team had a good Apertura 2015, but the overall exhibitions were below average.

Until some days ago, the team was coached by Pablo Caballero, but the club's administration ended up firing him for not accomplishing results. To take his place, Mauricio Soria, who has had previous good results with the team, comes seeking a better team performance, aiming the Copa LIbertadores knock out stage. For this first round, Soria should have all of the players at his disposal.

      Betting suggestion:

Playing at home, Sao Paulo should be the better team and should use all of his superiority to run the game and win at the end of 90 minutes. A bet backing the home team is of great value.
