Analysis: Valencia vs Barcelona (10 February 2016)

Valencia and Barcelona face at Estadio Mestalla, Valencia, in a 2nd hand match for Copa del Rey.

The head to head history favours Barcelona, since in the last 5 matches they register wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.

In this 2nd leg match Barcelona pretty much guaranteed qualification, after a 7-0 home win with 3 goals by Messi and 4 by Suárez.

      Analysis of Valencia

Valencia is currently in the 12th position of La Liga, with 25 points won, after 5 wins, 10 draws and 8 losses. It’s important to notice that Valencia is going through a negative moment and that in the last round they lost 1-0 in an away match against Real Bétis.

To reach this stage of the competition, coach Gary Neville eliminated Barakaldo, Granada and Las Palmas, but they shouldn’t reach the next stage, since Barcelona has a very comfortable lead from the 1st leg.

The home team opened up the score in only 3 of the last 10 matches, but always held on to the lead. The away coach will not be able to count on Diego Alves, Javi Fuego, Alcacer, Enzo Pérez and Guilherme Siqueira, who are all recovering from injuries.

      Analysis of Barcelona

Barcelona comes to this match in excellent shape and in the 1st position of La Liga, with 54 points won, after 17 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses. In the last match Barça presented accumulated fatigue, but they managed to beat Levante 0-2 in an away match.

To reach this stage of the competition Barça eliminated Villanovense, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao. Moreover, in this match they won’t need to work too hard, since they only have to control the match and manage the comfortable goal lead from the 1st league. In the last 10 matches Barça registers averages of 3,4 goals scored and 0,5 conceded per match, so their offensive quality is evident.

Coach Luis Enrique’s team opened up the score in 7 of the last 10 matches and always held on to the lead. Moreover, in the 3 matches in which they suffered the 1st goal they managed to turn the score around. The only absent player will be Rafinha, who is recovering from an injury.

      Betting suggestion:

The most likely scenario is that Barcelona will score more than 2 goals. The away team should dominate the match and create the best goal opportunities, not only due to the quality of the squad, but also because the comfortable lead from the 1st leg will give them the opportunity to take many offensive risks. Moreover, Valencia presents many defensive weaknesses which Barcelona may take advantage of.
