History at the World Series of Poker

Much of Mortensen's professional history is due to the World Series of Poker. For example, after moving to the United States in the late 1990s, Mortensen managed to claim the 2001 World Series of Poker Main Event title, where he won his first bracelet and $1,500,000.

On that occasion, Mortensen had to face 613 competitors in the 2001 Main Event, where several stars were present, as in the case of Mike Matusow, winner of the 1989 WSOP Main Event. In addition to Matusow, legend Phil Hellmuth was present along with Phil Gordon and Dewey Tomko. Mortensen ended up beating all those names at the Main Event table and winning his first WSOP title.

After that, Mortensen returned to the 2003 World Series of Poker. Here, the Ecuadorian was present in the Limit Hold'em Main Event with a $5,000 buy-in. Overcoming his competitors, the Ecuadorian managed to win the title of champion, after defeating Mark Gregorich and earning the amount of US$ 251,680.

Three years after his second win, Mortensen returned to the World Series of Poker in 2006. That year, Mortensen's life was filled with events to attend as the Ecuadorian made three WSOP final tables.

For starters, Mortensen placed ninth in Event #2 No Limit Hold'em and took in $71,617. Following that, Mortensen placed ninth in Event #6 NL Hold'em and pocketed another $73,344. Finally, Mortensen hit the woodwork to claim his third WSOP bracelet in Event #33 Razz, where he took runner-up and earned $94,908 after being eliminated by James Richburg.

In 2013, Mortensen was present at the World Series of Poker. Here, the Ecuadorian participated in the Main Event edition, but ended up being eliminated in third place.

Despite this, Mortensen was the last major player in the poker game to win a World Series of Poker Main Event, as the debut of Chris Moneymaker (practically unknown at the time) led to several players not known to the community winning world titles of the World Series of Poker Main Event.

In addition to the WSOP, Mortensen also has titles in other major events, such as the World Poker Tour, the WPT. In the tournament in question, in 2004, Mortensen won $3,970,415 after securing the $1 million Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship title.

Fortune

Although Mortensen is very cautious about providing details about his life, the player is known to have made over $12 million in profit from the game of poker. Given that, the biggest amount the Ecuadorian won was at the WPT Championship Event, where he made nearly $4 million.

Currently, Mortensen lives in the United States. Out of curiosity, Mortensen was mentioned in the TV series, Gossip Girl, as a former lover of a character in the series.
