The year 2020 was marked by great challenges and national and global football was no exception. Clubs, players, coaches, and even supporters had to reinvent themselves and reorganize in order to keep the levels of motivation and commitment that characterize this sport.

A Community Member of the Betting Academy was chatting with a professional player, and here is the straightforward account of a player's most important moments, on and off the pitch.

In the middle, the player was challenged to wear the “bettor's jersey” and to share his perspective, in choosing some strategies and analyzes.

Note: for professional reasons we will not be able to identify the player.

Locker Room. Team. Absences. Expulsions.
What Moves a Professional Football Player?

Q - How do you see the bad sequence of big clubs like Dortmund, Barcelona, Real, Valencia and others?

A - As a player, the only thing I can say is that I personally do not know any player who wants to play to lose. Winning is in the blood of any professional in the field. Now, it depends on several factors and teams. If you take the example of Barcelona, and there are many opinions, yes, Messi, as I know, is a true leader of the dressing room and when a leader no longer has that desire to stay in a club, the so-called locker room “tales and sayings" begin , and as a team, unity is very important. I'm not saying that Messi separated the locker room, but a player like Messi may well destabilize the locker room completely.

I'll give you an example that I personally spent in a first division team. Our team was very close. During our days off we had our most private parties at the house of one or another player. At one point, a former colleague had the unfortunate idea of trying to seduce another colleague's wife (and people have no idea how common it is in the football world) and this lady ended up getting involved in that case. Of course, the truth came out. Colleagues came to blows, put the direction towards the noise, the direction did not want to fire any of them - what is certain is that, all the union in the locker room, changed the structure of the club and there were 8 games without winning, simply because of the groups that were created after the incident.

I am not saying that this is what happened to Messi, far from it. Messi has a history of being saturated with Barcelona and Barcelona won't let him out. Now regarding to bad results, I would assess the situation for something that, in fact, and i speak for myself, football is sorely missing - the AUDIENCE. Strange as it may seem, the public is missed in the stadiums a lot, because you train more focused on your work and and when you equip yourself and enter the stadium for warm-up, what you feel is a void, a huge void.

Nothing has changed in football except the absence of an audience.

Anyone who knows our city and knows that playing at home with an unfavorable or tangential result, you know, without looking at the screen, that the 80th minute has arrived, the game is about to end and you either have to score or hold on , because the public gave you that warning, you pulled the team. The public often takes the team on their laps and I cannot describe the situation in words, but I know that, in the final stretch, you have to give your all and, with the support of the fans, you will seek extra strength that you did not even think you had . This has happened to me on several occasions in situations of split moves: a sprint that I didn't even expect to have to do, etc. What happens without an audience is that you lose heart, you want to break the pace of the game yourself, especially if you are winning because you are in an empty egg, even if booed, you miss the audience.

This is my analysis, because nothing has changed in football, either tactically or technically. The teams are the same, some with more reinforcements than others, but what has been normal for decades. Nothing changed.

Q- How does a team prepare for a game with an opponent?

A- The preparation is divided into several phases throughout the week. The first phase, post-game, is normal only with normal decompression training, generally in the morning.

The second phase, goes through a video analysis of the previous game where the technical team made the assessment of the mistakes made by the team, and then you make a replica on the field as many times as necessary, programmed by the technical team, until everything has been aligned .

In the third phase, after receiving the Scouts' work, the technical team prepares the training in accordance with the data obtained. The main aspects to take into account are potentially faster players, more technical, in the possibility of them playing, the way the team plays, from tactical, technical system etc., which is their biggest source of income and we train pressure forms for in order to stop you from canceling your work. It is important to have as much information as possible so that the game is prepared in detail.

However, we are never too attached to numbers, such as winning streak, defeat or goal because football is the moment. About betting little I understand. Just from what I see from my friends, but I don't think it is relevant or imperial that we see a direct confrontation of teams.

For example, we played against Tondela yesterday, we knew from past games that it was going to be a difficult game, in a very difficult stadium for any team, with a very well oriented and organized team. Even so, I think it doesn’t make sense to call past numbers, because this year’s Tondela has players that last season didn’t have, with different characteristics, with different methods and that can and will condition your analysis (this is certain when talking about betting). If you have to get information, let that information be as short as possible, and you still should not cling too much to the numbers because in football, what was last Saturday, next Saturday may already be totally different. You always play against different teams, different characteristics, different goals and this conditions the analysis and here, it goes for our preparation as athletes of high competition, as for bettors whether professional or not.

We are never too attached to numbers, such as a winning streak, a loss or a goal because football is the moment. About betting little I understand.

Q- Absences. How conditioned do you feel in the game if your team is weightless?

- It changes everything. As much as you know that this player will have a substitute, in certain moments of the game, the characteristics of one will always be different from the other and you will always know that if he were "that" player, he would be there in that precise moment and space that now the other is not due to also require adaptation on behalf of everyone. This can condition your game completely, because the current player, due to having these different characteristics, may not head the ball so well, so your game may stop being crosses to the area and become rupture passes inside of area or for the entrance on the area, and the team may not be routinized in that aspect, which will end up conditioning the game.
The other player already knows how to cross because he knows who will be in the area, while the substitute may have more difficulty at crosses because he is not so effective in crossing. The absence of a single player can completely alter a tactical and evolutionary scheme in the game.

Talking about the frontal attack. In defense, it requires even more care because it is a critical zone, because in truth, kicking the goal anyone knows, defending not really, hence it is a more critical zone.

As a rule, when this happens it is common to see tactical changes in the defense, where the sacrifice often becomes the defensive midfielder who often helps there as a central third party to come and help in the rear whenever the opponent attacks, but in doing so it can also create imbalances because someone will always have to protect the space left in the midfield while always having to worry about attacking at the same time, which is very difficult and exhausting to do.

Therefore, a player changes the conditions of the game a lot. In addition to all this, a very important aspect that sometimes escapes the eyes of the common adept are motivational and trust factors. I saw games from our Second League championship (because I like to watch and, for me, as a player, it's even important to get my personal notes to be more prepared), that were deprived of very important players, and because of that, the game style changed completely, I even saw matches where the feeling left was that the ball burned in the feet, so clearly, there the confidence factor of the team was very low. Clearly, this immediately conditions the team so much that, curiously, one of those games ended up drawing because of inefficiency, but also because throughout the game the team never had the adaptability it should have had, and this was clearly marked by the lack of one important player. What is very common to hear in these cases is “oh the team spent X million and depends on a player”.

Everyone has their own opinion, but I also know people in common jobs and have been doing it for many years and constantly make mistakes when they already have a lot of experience in that job and would be less likely to be susceptible to error.

arbitro-expulsão

Q - Speaking of players who change the system. Expulsions. How does the team react to an expulsion? On both sides. Who sees the expulsion and who suffers from it.

- Both are difficult, but let's start with the opponent with a player sent off and create several scenarios - I think it is good for your profession or betting hobbies and also try to understand how it works inside a team.

Opponent player sent off with a tied result. Automatically and we are all like that, it is human, what comes to mind is an extra motivation. You know that most likely the opponent will take someone off the attack (if it was someone from the rear to leave). Therefore, our defense here will be a little more relaxed and will even have some freedom to be more aggressive, which can further condition the opponent. At the same time, you know that the opposing defense will continue with the same number of players, but the motivation that the expulsion generated on our part will lead to continue to go up insistently until you manage to score.

It is even common for you to see the team that still has 11 players playing against a team with 10, putting one more man on the attack. This does not mean at all, that the team is desperate to score. It is a tactical option, so that the opponent reduces the lines. If I was already playing with 2 strikers, if I put in a third striker, or another creative midfielder, the opponent with 10 players would explore only the counterattack and would now have to be even more cautious regarding the number of men they have ahead. That is, the opposing team is much more locked in the rear.

However, sometimes, it is not that simple (and I will explain later) because not everything is a walk in the park just because you have one more man.

The same situation, but with the opponent already losing, is practically the same thing and your team can even change something in tactical terms and there, again, put another man in the front to create imbalances (90% of times). Winning, gives you the immediate feeling in your heart that the game is on, but you can't relax. Sometimes you can deliberately break the pace of the game.

If the player sent off is from your team, the scenario I wanted to reach, sometimes don't think that by having another man it becomes easier or a walk in the park because the difficulty will be similar. This then varies a lot from team to team. Our locker room is very close, and it has sometimes happened this season that we are reduced to ten elements and, wherever the field is we are missing, our reaction is immediate.

We have an internal pact as players, friends, based on our union, our will and our end-of-season goals, that each one runs a little more and we will not let our colleague burn with a card. Here you can also see the strength of the locker rooms, there are things that go unnoticed by the common fan, but yes, many teams are prepared for this, including many times we train this type of aspect.

You are training normally and suddenly, randomly, the coach sends out a field player (sometimes even the most influential player) and, at that time, you know that this is the moment you have to adapt to a real situation, as if it was a real game to be prepared. So, on our part, we adjust positions and each one knows that we have to run a little more than we need to play, but it is much more tiring and the sooner the player is expelled, the greater the physical exhaustion, which can then bring a lot of other conditions to the game.

Absences and expulsions are key factors when it comes to making a bet, do you agree? Follow today's matches and check these and other relevant data before placing your next bet.

Q - Large clubs. You only play well against the big ones. Myth or Reality?

A - It is the easiest question of all. Those are the easiest matches for several factors. They are the best workouts of the week.

First, because the pressure will always be on the big team side. Second because it is a game that, at the outset, is already lost, given the difference in quality of plants, budgets, etc. It is a game that you have nothing to lose or win, there are three points in dispute, because in general you fight against a team that is not part of your "championship" and our obligation is to win against our direct rivals.

However, there are several factors to take into account. Imagine you are on a diet and your free day to eat sweets is that day. For us, the big ones are our day of eating sweets. The pressure is already on their side, so we're going to play a lot more relaxed because we don't feel the pressure to win, the motivation factor is unmistakably much greater, and maybe it will be another important point that we didn't talk about back there, the defeats of the big clubs.

We are small, we are already used to few people in the stadiums and those teams that already have the pressure to win under the heat of the fans, without support can become even more difficult because of what I explained. Freedom of pressure, extra motivation. Our goal is always to delay. The later the goal, the better and then it depends on the big teams whether or not they know how to work against the clock, but, as time goes by, the pressure for them increases, hence you often see clubs, with just a few minutes left, pumping balls into the area, which, as a rule, are easy balls for defense - instinct always ends up being stronger and you start to play more with the heart than with the brain.

Another important factor is also the home / away factor. You at home will feel much more comfortable, in addition to that motivation to play against a big one, you will play a lot more relaxed and all this really has to do with the pressure factor. Playing against Benfica, Porto, Sporting, the pressure is on them, for us it is another game. However, for all these factors, this may be relevant for you, if you take the statistical data of all the great favorites from all over the world, you will find a number of goals suffered by those favorites at a much higher rate away from home than at home. Because I know, for example, if I go to the Luz stadium, my tactical action will be different, it will be more restrained, I will try to just explore the counter attack. In my home, I have more ease and freedom to explore the attack. Besides, normally these teams that already put an absurd pressure on the defense, in their own home that pressure is even greater, which makes this process of going out with the ball even more difficult.

Either way, it's a normal game, we don't just play well against the big ones. The spectators in Portugal only watch football when a big one is involved and, invariably, this overwhelming majority, of the times they play with a small one, that is the idea that remains, but it is wrong. I don't see, for example, people turning on the TV to watch, for example, a Paços Ferreira vs Rio Ave, then the ignorance brings this idea. But we handle it very well.

Do you only play well against the big ones? They are the easiest games for several reasons.

Q- Speaking of motivation. How do you psychologically turn a consecutive losing streak or several goals suffered?

A- Nowadays, all clubs work with psychologists, coaches, etc. But the key word before you get into a spiral of bad results is called a coach. And in that chapter we lost a great man named Vítor Oliveira.

I was trained by Vítor twice. He became my personal friend and was a man who wouldn't let you fall for anything. The coach is the key to getting you out of that spiral. I remember Vítor taking motivational videos to the locker room before the games, it was unique, it was the strength in person, he shouted at you until he was hoarse because he knew you could yield a lot more and took you to the limit, so if you already have a pressure of not winning and you don’t have a coach that raises your self-esteem, that pulls you, this spiral will continue without precedent.

How do we get over it? Work, focus, encouragement, but sometimes there are incomprehensible things. But if you continue to work hard, one day that bad luck will end. I remember a streak of 7 games without a win, and in a 83m game there was a penalty. At the time of scoring, I was only thinking about victory, and going to hug my coach to the bench because he deserved. I think the ball must have come out about 2 meters above the post. When everything goes wrong there is nothing to do but train more, focus more, because a victory can change everything.

In our case, this season we are doing well, we hear lively music in the locker room, messing around, dancing. "There is time for everything" was the lesson we learned from last season in one of those spirals also from 9 games with bad results . The secret was focus on work, absolute concentration, some lectures, either by the coach or the group psychologist, because, in reality, if you are well, some day good things will appear, and this is also our work as a group: trying to maximize our own self-esteem from co-workers and coach support. Regarding this, you also have another great name, Sérgio Conceição, for whom I have been trained, however, for personal reasons - I prefer not to touch that name - but Sérgio is a great master in motivation and Porto, in this aspect, is very well served.

Q- Psychological lashes. Why do teams invariably win when a new coach arrives?

A- For what we just talked about. Motivational factor. There is not a single coach in the world, be it Pepe Guardiola, Klopp, Mourinho or Jorge Jesus who changes the way a team plays in a week. This takes weeks, sometimes months to internalize. Motivation. When a club changes coaches it is because the situation has reached a limit of wear and tear between both parties.

The new coach only comes with a speech prepared to empathize with you on the first impact, to show that you are there for what you need from him, he is a new speaker in the first days and that talk can change everything. It brings hope, motivation and the will that he puts through with his message.

I had a situation with a coach fired on a Saturday, a new coach arrived on a Tuesday and in that week nobody, strictly nobody, trained with the ball. In the next match, we won. Was it because we played better? No. We played exactly the same way, but our joy in playing was at the top, we had a much better motivation and the certainty that it would now work.

And during the game? How is this Emotional Management done?

Q- Let's talk about the game played. More and more, set pieces are important. How important is the team to set balls and what preparation do they do during training?

A- Nowadays it is vitally important to have good batsmen, a game can be decided in a free kick, in a corner, in a penalty. As a general rule (we) have two official set pieces batters: one for throws on the right side, the other on the left.

However, by the coach's option, anyone can and is able to hit the ball, if they so choose by tactical or technical option. We work a lot on set pieces in training and in all ways. Corners with goal shots, corners with counterattack output, free at different distances and from different sides. Per week, we dedicate about 4h to 6h only to hit set pieces with penalties included.

Q- Explain to me the reason for the short corners.

- This is the type of move that you hear from the bench the famous “what a shitty corner”, but there is of course a study that escapes the common adept.

I may be mistaken, but who started this short corner “addiction” was Barcelona several years ago by a man named Paco Seiru-lo, the “father” of tic tac who few people know who he is. The short corner only serves to deceive the opponent. You who bet and have these statistics can check better, but with the previous direct corner mark only 1 in 14 corners scored goals, with this version 1 every 9 corners scores. This is due to the positioning of the defense, or if we want to get deeper, the defensive marking failure caused by the short ball output.

Imagine that you are a defender and spent the week training defensive corners in the traditional way. You are cut out for that, you know what you have to do as a defense. Suppose that, you are defending, the opponent when touching the short ball your intuition is not to let whoever has the ball progress now. The problem is that you, who are the closest, really have to go out to the ball carrier, because he will not be afraid to go to the area and shoot the goal. He trained that equation too. Now imagine that you are going out, but your position is uncovered and there will be an opponent who will put yourself in it, and the closest defenders will correct your position and move forward to cover you and they will leave open spaces, and sometimes with so much man in the area no one knows who marks who, due to the space left by the players.

That is the true essence of the short corner, confusing the defense. Of course this is being trained. So, you see different sequences of corners and you never know if the corner comes out short or long because, be it short or long, you will almost always have a player close to the one who hits the corner, and that player alone is already dragging I have a defender who is there next to him. Basically, the short song, even we who do it when we suffer it, the thought is also more or less that of the adept, but in another aspect. "There comes shit".

It is extremely difficult to defend this kind of corners, because, in the overwhelming majority, it will lead to closed crossings, which are a real danger for the defense.

That is the true essence of the short corner, to confuse the defense.

Q- Good thing you talk about closed crossing. Collection of lateral fouls. Intersection closed or open? Which is the most dangerous?

A- The answer is that the closed crossing is 80% more dangerous than the open crossing.

But let's go by parts. Let's assume that you or a bettor has a strategy of getting into those set pieces. Let's simulate a lateral foul on the right side. When you see a fault in the right aisle, and who will hit that fault is someone who will hit with the right foot, that team clearly has players who have great driving power, they are very strong in the aerial game. In that circumstance, the ball will be hit, it will describe an outward arc fleeing the goal, but it will always be located between the penalty mark and the small area line. They are usually balls hit very hard where that strong player in the aerial balls, just has to put his head so that the ball goes into the goal with a lot of violence.

However, this type of move, being in a position facing the defense, is in general theoretically easier to defend, because the defender is facing the move, the ball is already coming out of the goal when it describes the arc and becomes more easy in theory of course. Now, when you see that the free kick is going to be beaten in the right aisle, but whoever is going to beat the free kick is a left-hander, this represents a synonym of trouble for the defense and I explain the difference.

In the previous free kick, you have a defense that is facing the shot, but the ball makes a trajectory out of the goal line. Here you will have just the opposite. A ball that will be crossed with the destination of the second post, always. These free kicks will always be beaten directly to the second post, or the farthest post as you want to call it. It is important that you pay attention to several aspects.

Let's assume that you are in the defensive, to have a better analysis. When my players see me go from the left aisle to the right side they already know that I am going to hit the ball. So you have a three line formation in the area. There are some that with the naked eye are inside the area and give the feeling that they will be caught out of play, but they are strategically there, you have the opposing line of defense, usually placed in the wide area line, and you have the rest of my team there very close to that defensive line.

At the same time I go to the ball, that line, which is out of range, advances, and here chaos begins. You are in the defense, the ball is going to fly overhead, you are going to run backwards, the guy you thought was going to be out of the game stood still until I hit the ball, but now it is on your back again, and you are going to be walking backwards, you have to pay attention to the player you were already scoring, you have another one on your back, and if you touch the ball badly, it runs the risk of suffering a trajectory towards the goal.

Hypothesis 1. The ball is hit to the second post, it does not touch anyone, but as there is a large group of players in a short space of the field, it can take away the visibility of the goalkeeper.

Hypothesis 2. Any defense can touch the ball and as you are going to run backwards you will have little lift to hit the ball with the head looking forward.

Hypothesis 3. A forward or midfielder will always go to the second post for an amendment. Therefore, this type of move is much more dangerous than the previous move and as a general rule no defender likes this type of move. In the frontal free kicks, there is not much to add, as there are moves that the ball goes directly to the goal, and here it will depend on the batter of the ball, if he hits with his right or left foot, if he has hit well or not in the last free kicks , because of the trust factor, etc.

Q- Imagine that the game starts, and your team suffers a goal in the first minute, or in the first five minutes. How does the team feel?

- First of all, the whole plan that you had for the game and that you prepared throughout the week falls to the ground.

In soul terms, it does not affect much because you know that even counting the discount times of both parties you have in the same 90m or 80m game, but now you are losing.

So first, not letting that goal affect the team psychologically this is the first rule, and reacting quickly. Obviously, now you will have to tie the game to go back to point 0 and go back to doing everything that was planned, but the first internal process is never to fall animically or think about the result early, because that will clearly affect the whole team.

Then you may or may not bring some conditioning to the game, as a general rule it does not, because whoever scores will always try to play their game in a normal way, because they know that go back along the lines, just because they scored in the first minutes, can be a kamikaze tactic there. It is common to see the opposite, the team scores, and the tendency is to play aggressive to further condition your transition defense-attack.

And now with the “Gambler's Shirt”

Q - For example, from the bettor's point of view, it is common to see teams leaving at halftime winning by 2 or 3 goals, in the second part we come in favor of more goals, but the goals do not come. Why is that?

A - It will always depend on the team, but in fact a team that already scores the second goal depending on the goal time it will relax, it is common practice in almost all teams. With a result of 2 goals difference you tend to relax, in your psychological you know that in order to lose you have to concede 3 goals and if you have confidence in the defense, you will break the pace of the game and this goes for the first or second half and goes to Porto or Casa Pia, you'll take the time to stop and burn a few more seconds. This above all just serves to mess with the opponent who has to go in search of goals quickly and, as a general rule, when you see more goals it is because your opponent is looking for balanced goals in the attack and ends up suffering goals in counter strike.

However, as I said, it will depend a lot on the teams. You recently had a Bayern Munich that lost halftime by 2 goals and made a fantastic recovery. Can you say it was Bayern's merit? Those who saw the game were mixed. An excessive relaxation by Mainz that had only to control the result, combined with an early goal from Bayern in the second half, and something that escapes the common fan, but in psychological terms, whoever scores a goal, is always closer to making another than to suffer, and that's what happened in the Bayern game.

Q - What is the best moment of the game for you?

A - Let's return to Bayern. Without a doubt: the break. It is the time when things are not going well you can correct some positions, elaborate or rectify some type of play that you were not making.

For almost all players the best time is the break, which is why in the previous answer I said it depends on the team and the need. You have teams that are formatted to finish the game as if the game was only 45m long. This is very common to see, for example, in teams that attend European competitions: they have their goal at national level, but they also have to think about those games, so the most frequent thing is that you see a team that comes in very strong in the first half. to get to the goal as quickly as possible and kill the game with the second goal still in the first half, and in this case, speaking of European teams, the second goal is to kill the game because you will hardly have teams with the ability to turn over that result. Speaking of Portuguese teams, for example, like Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Braga, because afterwards, in general, even with substitutions, these teams have a very strong attack and possession pattern that allows them to control the game at their favor without suffering major casualties.

But in general, the first part for most of the teams is more atypical because inside you know that you have 45m ahead of you and you will not push too hard, run like crazy, you will manage it all, because you have no idea how the second half of the match will be, so in the first part you do time management and physical management. But as I said, this is what happens in most teams and then each team plays what the opponent allows them to play, which does not prevent you from seeing teams and matches with a lot of goals in the first half in general, and very busy matches in first part. This is already trained at home, for every action there is a reaction that applies a lot in football.

The interval is the time when, if things are not going well, you can correct some positions, elaborate or rectify some type of play that you were not making.

Q - In the betting world we have a market called Over Limit. Try to catch another goal from the 75 / 80m minute. Let's say you are playing Juventus vs Parma the game is 1 x 1 at 80m. If you were a bettor, what criteria would you take into account to enter or not in search of that goal?

A - Without a doubt, the defensive sector of Parma, and the number of attacks and corners of Parma.

Q - I was confused. Number of corners in Parma? Can you specify?

A - There are only three ways for you to get a goal at these periods of the match: a set piece, a shot outside the area or a defensive error.

There is no other hypothesis on the planet. So when you have a favorite team, and I suppose that here you are looking for a goal more for Juventus, you have to pay attention to those numbers, the number of attacks and the number of corners of that theoretically weaker team and that has an explanation that we train and study.

If you, in this case, have a Parma, who limited himself to defend, he made one or the other attack sporadically, nothing relevant, without great danger in the opponent's goal, at this point, Parma's defense is much cooler than the opponent's attack, very because the attackers ran a lot more, to create spaces, to get the ball behind, to take it forward, to put constant pressure on the attack front and that leads to great wear.

Having Ronaldo in the team and, realizing this, Juventus moves to Plan B. Finding a way to suffer the greatest number of fouls possible to enter the area. You see a fresh Parma defense, controlling it well and necessary, you don't see Juventus shooting from outside the area, creating free kicks, give up. The goal may arrive, but it will be very difficult, it will happen once at random in an isolated act.

If, on the other hand, you had an active Parma, who beat Juventus, attacked, created danger, made several corners, your strong point may be there. The wear and tear caused by Juventus attack in the defense of Parma, plus the times that the centrals had to go to score the corner and quickly recover their position, times the number of corners, plus the wear that continued to suffer, the sides exactly the same thing, the same wear and tear, through normal tiredness at that time of play, tiredness brings lack of concentration, are two things that go hand in hand in football, inevitably, you may not even suffer in that match, for some reason, but invariably it will be more times you will suffer than those you will not suffer. And you have the example of last season when, in 6 consecutive matches, we were either in front of the scoreboard or tied, and in all 6 games we suffered goals very close or already in discounts, because we were always in continuous attack and tiredness was our enemy. With the big teams this is no longer recurring, because as they are teams with a lot of ball possession especially on the attacking field, this allows the defense to recover physically.

Q - We bettors are sometimes frustrated with favorite teams in cup matches. Why do clubs make it so easy in cups?

A - It is not about facilitating. It has to do with a period planning organization chart. It is part of the coach's competences, in board meetings, to be an integral part of the club's financial management. Therefore, the coach is responsible, in addition to the results, for managing the team, physically, psychologically and financially.
Let's take the example of Porto, which is the perfect example. The planning of Futebol Clube do Porto for the current season should be as follows: win the championship, win the internal cups and try to go as far as possible in the Champions League, which will bring you a tremendous financial return. This is half of what Sérgio Conceição has to manage. He knows at this point, which players have a prospect of leaving at the end of the season. What he does is, together with the technical team, in team B find solutions for these positions of the players who will leave. And here come the cup games.

If you already have a very favorite Porto against a third division team, for example, Porto is favorite to win, either at home or away. So that player, who can be an alternative in leaving a player from the main team, will play to gain pace with the other teammates. Now, let's be honest, and without offending anyone, the Porto players know that they have the technical quality to put a ball in the net at any time and, therefore, are much more relaxed because the goal more minute less minute can come.

On the other side are nobodies, who compete in a third division and that is the game of their lives, in most cases. But the crux is here. The nobodies, are playing against a big favorite, where they also have nothing to lose because the pressure is on the Porto side, and they have a higher motivation factor than the peak of Everest, we talked about that back there. Motivation. The nobodies doing who knows the game of his life, motivated, know that they are being seen all over the country, and it is unthinkable at that moment that they do not think of anything else if they makes a good game, they can have an exit door that allow other career opportunities.

Playing at home at the same club, the motivation is even higher, in a field often with small dimensions and that the big ones are not used to playing, with less good lawns, and as time goes by, more and more the Nobodies believe if they score a goal, and if they use an extremely defensive tactic, Porto may be here on the verge of defeat.
On the other hand, what the favorites think is that it really is time for the goal, but the difficulties are getting bigger and here the clock factor starts to count.

Invariably the game is tied for what we talked about the fatigue factor previously, as the weaker team is not with such a routine pace will end up giving way. But all of this goes through season planning management, placing secondary players with the intention of creating routines with a financial goal in mind, and physical savings for larger matches and needs.

Q - I still think that the big clubs in the next season, will have even more difficulties due to the European Championship, and largely because of the lack of rest of the players of these teams. How do you see the future?

A - This is a completely assertive ideology, which we have been discussing. The great teams, since they always have a large number of internationals, will have to manage their efforts much, much more than today and this, in fact, can bring some discomfort to some teams, who play against teams that in theory are very physically fresh.

It is something that you in your world may even be able to explore to your advantage in some positions. Especially because if we talk about Portugal, specifically, which is a country that doesn’t have great investment assets from great players, what I foresee to fill this is a great entry of Brazilians, due to the price / quality ratio, who didn’t play the European Championship, that already come with their physical routines because the championships in Brazil have other start dates, but,at the same time, lack an adaptation period for the team and the championship. And here, there may be the advantage of some clubs, taking advantage of this issue to some extent, but I do not foresee any facilities next season, and what we will most likely see is a much more balanced championship without a doubt.

Q - Analyzing the current season. If you were a bettor who would you bet to be champion?

A - At this moment, for all that you have done, Sporting. Everything is going well for Sporting, at this time, and that is the result of a secret called the locker room. At this moment, we realized this easily when watching a game, and it is clearly evident that Sporting breathes health and happiness in that locker room, even with a coach who may not be very experienced, but is new, good speaker, wants to show service and this, as a general rule, are weapons difficult to beat. Besides that, Sporting, away from European competitions, in the final stretch of the championship, will make all the difference on a physical level, but it is just an opinion.

Q - If you were a bettor, based on your player experience and looking at the similarities of former players who became bettors, what criteria would you take into account, knowing that when entering the market, to guarantee financial return, your analysis would have to be right ?

A - Look, I had a professor at the university, who once told me a sentence that I bring to life: “Infinite information translates into zero work practice”.

What he means by this is that the more information you have, the less you will know how to use it, because the information is so much, that you don't even know where to start, if you don't have a defined criterion of what you intend to do.

If I were a bettor, one of the things that I would have to take into account for sure was to start looking for and identifying markets for which I would perhaps be better able to work, because the world of betting is a very complex world, with a lot of things where you can work and, in my humble opinion, although I only have some lights given by friends who do, I would really have to learn certain situations.

If I am watching a football game, I know how to identify the moments of the game, I can relatively easily see who is or is not closer to scoring a goal or reaching victory, but most likely that would be too little for a work projection. Because I have a deeper knowledge of our championships, and it is easier to obtain important information, I would most likely stay in our leagues at the beginning, which in truth, in my view, I may be wrong, they are very good for perhaps if you work as a bettor.

My idea is if you work with something you know, you have easy access to information, it will probably be easier. It is easier for me to get information from the second or first league than from the La Liga or Première League, but as I said, it was a case to study.

If I were a bettor, one of the things I would have to take into account for sure was to start looking for and identifying markets for which I would perhaps be better able to work.
