Preview: Demian Maia vs Matt Brown (UFC - 14th May, 2016)
We don't expect too much action in the first round, since both fighters aren’t very aggressive or like to take chances. This means the fight is likely to...

Demian Maia is a 38 year old Brazilian fighter with a black belt in ju-jitsu. He is a fan and an apprentice of Royce and Rickson Gracie. Fighting on his feet is not his specialty, so he usually gets his wins by submission or through the judges’ cards. Only 4 of his 28 fights have ended by knockout, which has happened only once in the last 16 fights.

He recently gave an interview saying he should be given a chance to fight for the belt. If he wins this fight, he will have won 8 of the last 10 fights, making him one of the favourite to face to champion. We believe Damian Maia will once more present his cautious style, studying the opponent and defending well, trying to take the fight to the floor.

Matt Brown is a 35 year old American fighter, who specializes in boxing, kickboxing and jiu-jitsu. However, his Jiu-Jitsu skills are far inferior to the Brazilian’s. Brown has never been knocked out in his 33 fights.

He has lost 2 of the last 3 fights, having been beaten by Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks. But he won his last fight, against Tim Means. He has an MMA record of 20 wins and 13 losses, but only 2 of the last 16 fights have ended in the first round, because Matt Brown has never been knocked out. In this weight category the fighters don't usually have the strength to get that many knockouts.

We believe Damian Maia will try to take the fight to the ground, where he has the advantage over the opponent. On the other hand, Matt Brown is unlikely to be knocked out, but he should struggle to beat Damian Maia. We don't expect too much action in the first round, since both fighters aren’t very aggressive or like to take chances. This means the fight is likely to have more than one round.
